If you can’t book a romantic stay for Valentine’s Day, how about booking a great escape for a later weekend getaway? Tuck reservation information in with acard or bouquet of flowers. We have a few choices that are sure to spark some romance.
The first is Prospect Hill Plantation Inn, Louisa VA. It’s a beautiful inn on 40 acres at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Inn has a room for everyone’s taste – from luxurious to rustic (but all with modern amenities). There’s plenty to do in the area – Monticello, UVA, downtown Charlottsville shopping and restaurants, and Shenandoah National Park. Or, you can just relax and stroll the beautiful grounds before enjoying a gourmet dinner. We stayed in the 1699 Boy’s Cabin guest room – very quiet and private.
Next, The Inn at Middleton Place, Charleston, SC. This inn’s stunning award winning architecture takes advantage of the natural surroundings with floor to ceiling windows. There are kayak and bike rentals and daily breakfast at the Lake House. Of course, you can tour Middleton Place Plantation home and gardens. Check the website for upcoming events that include everything from Camellia Walks to wine tastings.
The Country Inn at Berkeley Springs, WV. Take advantage of the warm springs Roman baths . I opted for a full body massage as well (one of the best I’ve ever had). The hotel is charming with cozy beds. Stroll through the downtown area and over to the Berkeley Springs Antique Mall with works by local artisans. Check out the Black Cat Music Shop that specializes in ukuleles! Then head over to the Berkeley Springs Brewpub. Who has the world’s best tasting water? Find out at the Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting (no kidding) is February 20-23.
Stonewall Resort, Roanoke, WV. It’s a perfect WV stay with its year round heated pool and hot tub, great restaurants and cozy firepit. Enjoy activities on the lake, play a round of golf or relax in the spa. Do as much or a little as you want. Check the website for information on the Wine and Chocolate Series and monthly bourbon tastings.
If you want an urban setting (and a splurge) head to Le Meridien, The Joseph, Short North, Columbus, OH . With over 500 pieces of art on display, the hotel’s interior is a bright retreat even on a cold dreary Columbus day. The hotel features spa suites – the ultimate pampering experience. Enjoy a craft cocktail at the Soul Bar before heading out to some of the best restaurants in Columbus. There is no shortage of entertainment, live shows and art galleries.
Finally, a favorite stay in Kentucky at the PIkeville Historic Mansion, a Hampton Inn property located in a newly vibrant downtown. We stayed in the York Suite, one of seven romantic rooms. The Appalachian Wireless Arena is just across the street and the hotel is a short walk from The Blue Raven restaurant, Bank 253, and Pig in a Poke (get the grilled pimento cheese sandwich).
