“The organization for women who are passionate about exploring bourbon and the culture around it.” So says the vision statement of the Bourbon Women Association. Since 2011, the organization has grown to include members in 23 states and 3 countries. Their expertise and presence stood out front and center at Bourbon and Beyond this past weekend in Louisville, KY.
We had a “spirited” conversation with Susan Reigler, the Bourbon Women’s immediate past president. The award winning author, critic and James Beard Bourbon contest judge told us “People need to realize that the women who help found this nation did most of the distilling back in the day. Bourbon Women come from all walks of life and share a natural passion that goes along with the motto we use at our annual ‘Sip-osium’ – libations, learning and laughter.” After talking with Susan in the Bardstown Distillery Bottle and Bond tent, she was on stage with Smooth Ambler’s John Little and Joe Beatrice founder of Barrell Craft Spirits on the Mash Stage for the “Art of Mingling and Blending”. This was one of many festival experiences where bourbon women led the way.
Bourbon Women provide education, networking and charitable opportunities for its members as well as some great fun events. For more information, go to bourbonwomen.org and start sharing your passion!
